In 1988, a young Tim Skelton returned from agricultural college, bought a Bobcat Skidsteer loader, a telephone and a diary, and set up TJ Skelton Contractors in his bedroom at his parent’s house. As a one man band he multi-tasked and embarked on scaling Kent with his Bobcat 643, soon gaining a sterling reputation with all of his customers. The work came pouring in, and the time came to expand and move out of his bedroom! He took on staff, bought more machines, incorporated the company name as Skelton Plant Hire Ltd and moved to a converted building at Stour Valley Business Park in Chartham. With business booming, it wasn’t long before SPH outgrew Chartham, and moved into a new purpose built facility at CT3, a new business park just outside Canterbury, with sister company Skelton Construction, playing a major role in the building of the site. 2006 saw further expansion for Tim and his team with the acquisition of a major competitor and with it a depot in Paddock Wood.
After 28 years, Skelton Plant Hire Ltd still prides itself on upholding the original values that it was set up with; of providing outstanding customer service and delivering reliable, high quality plant and equipment to all of its customers; delivered right first time, on time. With these principles, Tim, his family and his colleagues are looking forward to the next 28 years of Skelton Plant Hire Ltd.
We are delighted to be able to share with you a short video which encapsulates Skelton Plant Hire Ltd from the beginning to now.
